Important Decisions Have Been Made
Rabies quarantine began to be implemented after a sad incident in Cumhuriyet District of Kemerhisar town of Niğde’s Bor district. H.Ş, one of the residents of the neighborhood, was bitten by a stray dog on June 18 and was admitted to Bor State Hospital with suspicion of possible rabies. While H.Ş.’s treatment continued in the hospital, important decisions were made in the neighborhood.
Analysis of the Dog with Suspicion of Rabies was Done
Following the notification made to the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry following the death of the stray dog, a sample was taken by the veterinarian on duty and sent to Konya Veterinary Control and Forestry Directorate to be examined for rabies. The dog’s cadaver was disinfected and buried under the supervision of a veterinarian. While the analysis results were awaited, the possible spread of rabies was prevented with the precautions taken.
Rabies Quarantine Application in the Neighborhood
In order to prevent the spread of rabies, the Animal Health Police Commission convened and declared Cumhuriyet District as a “rabies suspect area” in accordance with the “Prevention of Rabies Disease and Combating Rabies Disease” regulation. It was decided to collect stray animals in the neighborhood, transfer them to shelters, vaccinate them, impose quarantine and ban animal entry and exit.
