The measures taken due to the rapidly spreading sheep and goat plague (PPR) outbreak in central Greece are expanding. Authorities have banned the slaughter and transportation of sheep and goats for breeding purposes in the regions affected by the outbreak.

According to reports in the national press, it was reported that approximately 7,000 animals were culled in the Thessaly region. It was also announced that another 1,200 animals would be culled. The virus was also detected in a livestock farm in the capital Athens.

Authorities announced that the necessary measures were taken to prevent the spread of the epidemic and protect small livestock.
