Peter’s Criticism of Netanyahu
Colombian President Gustavo Petro made a striking appeal to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the X social media platform. Petro used the phrase, “All sailors in the world, our indigenous peoples, should refuse to carry coal from any country to Netanyahu,” and emphasized that coal exports to Israel should be stopped. These statements included a message that underlined the tragedy and human drama experienced by Palestinian children.
Petro also responded harshly to those who criticized the halting of coal exports to Israel, saying, “Palestinian children and humanity are grateful. What is happening is that those who remain silent in the face of genocide in Colombia do not understand this.” These statements were of a nature to criticize the insensitivity of the international community towards the situation in Palestine.
In addition, the Petro government’s decision to ban coal exports to Israel has drawn criticism from some politicians in the country. Former Inspector of Industry and Trade and former Deputy Minister of Justice Pablo Felipe Robledo told the national press, “The suspension of coal exports to Israel is contrary to free economic competition and shows a violation of the law.”
Petro shared the decree officially banning coal exports to Israel with the public in a post he made on the X platform yesterday. This decision stands out as a reaction to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Petro drew attention to the seriousness of this situation by saying, “They are making bombs with Colombian coal to kill Palestinian children.”
As a reminder, Colombia officially announced that it was severing diplomatic relations with Israel on May 3, citing attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza. This situation is considered an important turning point in international relations.
