Peace Agreement Process Between Azerbaijan and Armenia
In an interview with the US-based broadcaster Radio Free Europe, the Special Mission Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbeyov, announced that some controversial issues were removed from the draft text in order to accelerate the planned signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan andArmenia. In this context, the article on transportation lines was also removed from the text by a joint decision of the parties.
Amirbeyov said that after the signing of the agreement, negotiations can continue on an acceptable formula for establishing transport lines between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. This is of critical importance for the normalization of relations between the two countries and the enhancement of security in the region.
Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated that the issue of opening transportation lines was removed from the draft text by mutual consent. Badalyan emphasized that this situation is an important part of Armenia’s vision of peace and economic development.
Transportation Lines and Disputed Issues
The issue of opening all transportation lines in the region, including the route known as the Zangezur Corridor, which would connect Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan via Armenia, has been a constant point of contention between the two countries during the peace negotiations. While the Baku administration argues that the crossings on this route should not be subject to any control, the Yerevan administration states that the crossings should be carried out in accordance with Armenian laws.
In this context, it is expected that an agreement between the two parties will make positive contributions to the peace process in the region.
