The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Dutch Amman Ambassador to the ministry due to the statements of racist and anti-Islam leader Geert Wilders. In a written statement, the ministry emphasized that Wilders’ words contradicted the relations of mutual friendship and respect and demanded a clear stance from the Dutch government.
The protest note stated that Wilders’ statements violated international law, had no value and reflected a culture of racist hatred. It was stated that the statements were against the rights of the Palestinian people and were parallel to a similar motion passed in the Israeli Parliament.
In the Netherlands, far-right activist Wilders has previously made statements denying the rights of the Palestinian people, and in particular their right to an independent state. The motion passed by the Israeli parliament called for “opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state” and claimed that this situation posed a threat to the Israeli state and its citizens.
