Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced that VAT will be stopped from the tips given to waiters and motor couriers in restaurants. According to the statement made by Minister Şimşek, tips will no longer be subject to VAT.
Currently, when a tip is made through applications while ordering food from restaurants, VAT is deducted from this tip. However, with the new regulation, VAT will not be collected from tips given through the application.
In his statement on his social media account, Minister Şimşek said, “We are facilitating the taxation of tip income through motor courier activities. With the regulation, commercial earnings generating from motor courier activities will be taxed in a simple manner, tip income will not “be associated with normal wage income and will be shown separately from the service fee and will not be subject to VAT.” .
