Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş has clarified the “custom-made scarf” accusation that has been circulating in the public in recent days. Speaking to Yeni Şafak, Minister Göktaş stated that she was given a scarf with her initials on it, as were other female ambassadors, at a conference she attended during her term as Turkey’s Ambassador to Algeria.

Göktaş’s Statements:

“When I was the Turkish Ambassador to Algeria, at the Ambassadors’ Conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, scarves were given to female ambassadors and ties to male ambassadors. I used this gift many times. My initials were added to the scarf. However, sometimes it was not visible because of its length.”

Perception Made Through Women

“I was very upset that it was presented as if I made the special design myself. I have no such obsession. I am not interested in such details. Such perceptions made about women are very wrong. While men find logoed clothing normal, I found “It was strange that the details on my heads were brought up. I would like to state that such news is untrue.”
