Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made important statements regarding fertility rates and family policies in Turkey during the NTV broadcast.
Decline in Fertility Rates and Precautions
Minister Göktaş stated that Turkey’s elderly population has increased by 21.4% in the last 5 years, and emphasized that the fertility rate is 1.51%, which is a serious concern. He explained that they are carrying out comprehensive studies to increase the young population and fertility rates, and that they are developing policies in cooperation with different ministries.
Göktaş stated that they established the Department of Family and Population Policies, which deals with family and population issues, in June and expanded family counseling services with a neighborhood-based social service approach. He also stated that the number of applications made to the Family and Youth Fund for young couples was 11,257 and the number of couples supported through this fund was 2,386.
Child Protection and Internet Use
Minister Göktaş stated that social media working groups are active to protect children from harmful content on the internet and that they evaluate the reports of families. He also explained that they act with the principle of zero tolerance in the fight against violence against women and that they are trying to strengthen policies with research on this issue.
Minister Göktaş also touched upon the support activities for the relatives of martyrs, veterans and their families, and stated that they have provided employment to nearly 50 thousand relatives of martyrs, veterans and relatives of veterans in the public sector to date and that new appointments are. being planned.
