Massacre at Tabiun School in Gaza
On Saturday, Israel carried out an unprecedented massacre at Tabi’in School, where thousands of displaced civilians were taking shelter in the Derej neighborhood in eastern Gaza City. Bombs dropped from warplanes caused a massive fire, and most of the bodies were observed to have had their arms, legs and heads torn off their bodies, while some were completely charred. Civil defense teams and locals tried to collect the dismembered limbs amid the destruction. These “horrific” images were captured on camera.
In the images shared on social media, it was seen that the disintegrated body parts were collected in plastic bags, and each bag weighing approximately 70 kilograms was classified as the body of a person. These images revealed the level of violence and brutality that Palestinians are subjected to. In a statement made by the government media office in Gaza, it was stated that due to the intensity of the bombardment in the attack on Saturday, even the bodies of three families could not be reached.
Testimony of Meram al-Jughburi
Palestinian girl witnessed the school massacre that shocked the world and made people have a hard time even watching it Meram al-Jughburi, described the horror she experienced through tears. She said that her mother was late for prayer because she was looking for a prayer rug, that the attack was very sudden and that when they went downstairs they saw that the mosque inside the school was completely on fire. Meram spoke as follows:
- “My father, my brother and my uncle were martyred.
- My cousin’s arms and legs were cut off.They took him to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital and he died there.
- My brother lost both of his legs, he says, ‘I’m tired, I can’t stand it anymore.’
Stating that they were living safely at school, Meram asked, “We were not harming anyone, what did they want from us?” Explaining that he saw body parts and blood everywhere in the school mosque, Meram said, “People were trying to get the martyrs out. They got many martyrs out. I hope they will experience the same pain that we experienced.”
Loss of a Father and Deep Pain
Meram, who stated that Israel took her only father from her, said that her father asked her to prepare breakfast every morning and when he did, he said, “May God bless you, my daughter.” Expressing the magnitude of the void she experienced with words full of reproach, the Palestinian girl said the following:
- “He told me that he would give me 100 shekels if I memorized the Quran for the Quran memorization competition held at school, but now my father is gone.”
- “We have no support left, we have no one left.”
- “We don’t want money or anything else, just give us back what we lost.”
Meram said that she was torn apart when she saw the state of her brother whose legs were cut off and that her 10-year-old cousin’s face was unrecognizable. The Palestinian girl expressed her complaint to Arab countries with the following words:
- “They say they will send us help. We don’t want their help, they just have to stop this war.”
- “We swear we don’t want anything, neither food nor drink.”
- “We have no one left, enough is enough, stop this war.”
