Maden Clock Tower: History and Features
Built in 1899 in the Maden district specifically for the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s access to the throne, the clock tower is one of the important tourist structures of the region. The original architecture of the structure, the materials used and its historical significance attract attention.
The clock tower was built in a special way with 25 rows of cut stone and 25 rows of slag stone. This detail symbolizes the 25th year of Abdulhamid II. In addition, the use of slag stone specific to the mining district in the tower ensures that the structure fits into the local texture.
Maden Clock Tower, the only clock tower that has survived to the present day in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Region, makes an important contribution to the cultural heritage of the region. Restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2018, the tower attracts the attention of tourists.
