Statement from Harris’ Foreign Policy Advisor
Jake Gordon, foreign policy advisor to Kamala Harris, who is nominated as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the US presidential race, made important statements about the discussions in the media in recent days. Gordon, X accountIn a post on Twitter, he said Harris unequivocally supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Iran and Iranian-backed terrorist groups. Gordon said, “The Vice President is clear on this issue. Israel’s right to defend itself is an important principle in international relations.”
Gordon also emphasized that Harris does not support an arms embargo on Israel. “The vice president will continue to work to protect civilians in Gaza and uphold international humanitarian law,” he said.
On the other hand, an aid to Harris, who asked not to be named, told American media that the idea of an arms embargo on Israel did not come up during Harris’ meeting with a pro-Palestinian group in Michigan. Following this meeting, Democrats, who were upset with the Biden administration’s unconditional support for Israel, formed a group that brought together voters who did not vote for Biden in the Michigan primary elections.
This group requested that the issue of the arms embargo on Israel be discussed in a separate meeting with Harris. However, Harris reportedly did not respond positively to this request, leading to increased criticism of the Biden administration’s foreign policy.
