Operation Magdel Shams and Developments
It was announced that 12 people were killed and 35 were injured in a rocket attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The Israeli army stated that the rocket was fired from southern Lebanon and that Lebanese Hezbollah was responsible. However, Lebanese Hezbollah stated that they were not responsible for the attack.
Tensions Between Israel and Lebanon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement regarding the attack, saying, “Israel will not write this deadly attack off. Hezbollah will pay a heavy price that it has never paid before.” On the other hand, it was claimed that the missile was fired from the Iron Dome air defense system belonging to the Israeli army after the attack warning sirens sounded in Majdal Shams.

UN Security Council Resolution 1701 calls for Israel to withdraw behind the Blue Line and demilitarize the area between the Litani River in Lebanon. Almost all of the areas between the Litani River in southern Lebanon and the Blue Line, which marks the border with Israel, are under the strong military influence of Hezbollah.
