Paramedics discovered at least five bodies and eight injured individuals at a former school in Nuseirat, central Gaza, which was being used as a shelter for those displaced by the Israeli-Hamas conflict. The Israeli military stated that the target was militants operating within the building and accused Hamas of using civilian structures and populations as shields.

This marks the sixth former U.N. school facility hit in the last 10 days, according to UNRWA, the main U.N. agency supporting Palestinian refugees in the region. Last week, an Israeli airstrike near a school turned shelter in Khan Younis resulted in at least 27 fatalities.

Additional Casualties

Another strike on Tuesday in Al-Mawasi, a designated “safer” zone west of Khan Younis, left around 17 people dead. The Israeli military stated that the target was an Islamic Jihad commander, with investigations ongoing regarding civilian casualties in the area.
