Israeli Security Cabinet Meeting and Increased Tensions
According to local media, the Israeli Security Cabinet held an extraordinary meeting in response to escalating tensions with Iran and Hezbollah. The critical meeting was reportedly held in the underground command room of the General Staff and was intended as an emergency drill.
There were also notable claims in the media about the meeting. Channel 12 television in particular claimed that the Israeli army was considering the possibility of receiving an order from the Security Cabinet to launch a preemptive strike against Hezbollah. This indicates that tensions in the region could escalate further.
Channel 13 also claimed that the latest assessments from the Tel Aviv government are that Hezbollah will target a senior Israeli official in retaliation for the attack on July 30 that killed top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur.
As will be recalled, the Israeli army carried out an attack on the Lebanese capital Beirut on July 30, killing Fuad Shukur, one of the prominent figures of Hezbollah. This incident was recorded as an important development that increased tensions in the region.
