Istanbul played an important role in Turkey’s exports and achieved a big jump in foreign sales in May. The city’s foreign sales increased by more than 2 billion dollars compared to April, reaching 8 billion 772 million dollars.
Istanbul’s foreign sales increased by 32.1 percent in May compared to April and by 9 percent compared to the same period last year. The city delivered its products to 212 different points in the world, increasing its share in Turkey’s total exports to 36.4 percent.
Industrial Sector is at the Forefront in Istanbul’s Exports
The industrial sector once again took the lead in Istanbul’s exports in May. The chemical substances and products sector made the highest foreign sales with exports of 1.6 billion dollars. This sector was followed by ready-made clothing and apparel, automotive industry, electrical and electronics sectors.
Most Exports Were Made to Germany
Companies operating in Istanbul made the most exports to Germany in May. Germany was followed by the United Kingdom, Italy, the USA and Spain.
