The air temperature, which is above seasonal norms in Diyarbakır, is negatively affecting citizens. Following the warnings of the 15th Regional Directorate of Meteorology, children are resorting to dangerous methods to cool off due to the temperature, which has been above 40 degrees for about a week.

The ornamental pools in the historical Anzele Park in the Melikahmet Neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s Sur district attract the attention of children. Ignoring the warning signs, children try to cool off by jumping into the water from a height of 3 meters. Some prefer to swim in the sun after swimming.

While döner operators are increasing the number of shifts due to the high temperatures, the masters are trying to cool down with various methods. While some döner masters use ice blocks tied to their backs, some cool their feet outside. The masters, who consume close to 30 liters of water a day, order ice from outside on a daily basis.

Citizens’ Opinions

  • Nihat Kurtkoru:“The cool water of Anzele Park is ideal for children. However, with temperatures of 40-42 degrees, we start to feel cold here too. It is better not to stand under the sun.”
  • Emir Kilic:“When it is not possible to cool off at home, we come to Anzele Park. Hot weather is an inevitable visitor here from our remote neighborhood.”
  • Suleyman Sun:“Working on the doner kebab can be difficult in hot weather. We try to cool down a little by using ice. We meet our daily ice needs.”
  • Taha Ali:“The temperature seems to be increasing every year. We cool down a bit by tying ice to our backs and putting our feet in the water. We drink nearly 30 liters of water a day and order ice.”
