North Korea is experiencing difficult times due to heavy rains affecting its regions bordering China. Many regions, especially the city of Sinuiju and Uiju district of Phyongan province, recorded record rainfall as of July 27. The Amnok River’s water level has exceeded the danger line, and 5,000 people have been trapped as a result of the floods. The country’s leader Kim Jong-Un personally led the North Korean army’s helicopter-assisted rescue operation.

Kim Jong-Un congratulated the Air Force personnel for their success after the rescue operation. He described the helicopters’ rapid and effective rescue of people stranded in the flooded area as “incredible.” Who stressed that protecting people’s lives and property was a priority and instructed state organs to provide the necessary support to the victims.

Kim Jong-Un stated that he had previously emphasized the precautions that needed to be taken against disasters, and that precautions were not taken in advance due to the irresponsibility of the authorities. Kim stated that “the laziness and self-interest of the officials in important positions have reached serious levels” and that urgent measures were needed to be taken.

Who criticized the fact that disaster response agencies have become dependent on the military’s rescue operation, despite the National Emergency Response Committees operating, and stated that public security organs are acting irresponsibly. Kim Jong-Un instructed officials responsible for public security to take the necessary measures and called for rapid steps to prevent new disasters.
