The flood disaster that occurred as a result of heavy rainfall in the Oltu district in the morning hours caused great damage in the Nügürcük, Çatak and Merakom neighborhoods. While 4 houses became uninhabitable due to the flood, 15 barns and cultivated areas were also seriously damaged.
There was great damage, especially in Çatak District. Haylofts, cellars and electricity poles were destroyed, while the drinking water line and infrastructure were also severely damaged. In addition, some citizens’ diesel purchased with farmer support was swept away by flood waters.
Oltu District Governor and Mayor Inspected for Damage Assessment
Oltu District Governor Mustafa Çelik and Oltu Deputy Mayor İsrafil Aslan conducted inspections in the areas affected by the flood. Deputy Mayor Israfil Aslan stated that they came to the area upon the notification of the neighborhood headman and said, “When we arrived, we saw the situation was much worse. There was flooding that exceeded the height of the houses. We are urgently evacuating the houses of our citizens. We are here as a state to do our best to relieve the suffering of our people.”
Çatak Neighborhood Headman Engin Taşkın said, “There was a heavy flood around six in the morning. Barns and houses were flooded. There was serious damage on the roads. Many houses were flooded, and belongings became unusable.”
