Heavy rainfalls in the Oltu district in the morning hours caused floods in the Nügürcük, Çatak and Merakom neighborhoods. As a result of this natural disaster, 4 houses were rendered unusable, while 15 barns and agricultural lands were seriously damaged.
The flood caused great destruction, especially in Çatak Neighborhood. Haylofts, cellars, and electricity poles were damaged, drinking water lines and infrastructure systems were severely damaged. In addition, some citizens’ diesel purchased with farmer support was submerged in floodwater.
Oltu District Governor Mustafa Çelik and Deputy Mayor İsrafil Aslan conducted inspections in the areas affected by the flood. Deputy Mayor Aslan stated that they quickly reached the village upon the notification of the neighborhood headman and said, “When we saw the situation, we encountered a much more serious picture. Despite the improvement works carried out in the stream, there was flooding exceeding the height of the houses. We are evacuating the houses for the safety of our citizens. As a state, we are here to do our best to relieve the victimization of our people.”
Çatak Neighborhood Headman Engin Taşkın said, “The heavy flood that started in the morning hours left barns and houses under water. There was serious damage to the roads. Many houses were under water and belongings became unusable.”
