Feyruz Gülüm: Hatay’s Only Female Bus Driver
Feyruz Gülüm, who achieved her dream of getting the driver’s seat 8 years ago, is a 54-year-old woman living in the Antakya district. Gülüm started driving student buses about 21 years ago and developed herself to realize her dream of becoming a bus driver.
Gülüm, who achieved her dream in 2016 thanks to Hatay Metropolitan Municipality, continues to drive a bus in her hometown destroyed by the earthquake. Gülüm, who loves her job, believes that women can do any job, and with this thought, she continues her enthusiasm for being a bus driver.
Gülüm made the following statements on the subject: “Besides the difficulties of being a bus driver, there are also good aspects. Many people appreciate and surprise me because I am the first female driver in Hatay. I love my job. I take the bus at 06.30 in the morning, and the noon shift starts at 1 pm” “Even though the responsibility of transporting people is great, I enjoy my job and I never have any difficulties.”
