Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina made statements about the “quota ratio” tension in the country during a meeting with business leaders in the capital Dhaka.

Hasina stated that the curfew was declared to ensure public safety, and that she did not want this situation and that the ban would be lifted if the situation improved.

Claiming that the violence during the protests was caused by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Party, Hasina said that the decision to allocate public quotas for the children of those who fought in the 1971 War of Independence in Bangladesh was the reason for the protests.

The developments in the demonstrations, in which a total of 143 people lost their lives, had also attracted international attention.

According to information obtained by AA correspondent from hospital sources and local reporters, a total of 143 people lost their lives in Bangladesh as a result of the protests.
