Contemporary Journalists Association (ÇGD) reacted harshly against the journalists who left their mark on the agenda with the scandalous headline published in the last issue of Türkgün newspaper. Türkgün newspaper made a sensational publication under the title of “Halk TV’s stupid sleuthing”, targeting valuable journalists such as Timur Soykan, Murat Ağırel, Barış Terkoğlu and Barış Pehlivan.
ÇGD made a statement against this ugly attack on press freedom and journalistic ethics. In the statement made on behalf of the association, “We emphasize that the judiciary should take the necessary steps against those who threaten our journalists, who perform their profession honestly and defend the society’s right to access accurate information.”
While ÇGD continues to defend the public’s right to access accurate and unbiased news, it stated that such sensational and targeting publications of Türkgün newspaper harm our democratic social structure. The association stated that they will stand against any threat to journalists and defend freedom of the press under all circumstances.
