Hamas’ Statement on Negotiations
Hamas’ latest statement addressed the difficult conditions of the negotiations for a ceasefire and prisoner swap in Gaza, mediated by the US, Egypt and Qatar. The statement emphasized that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was preventing an agreement from being reached by adding new conditions to the negotiations.
The statement, which stated that Netanyahu had put the mediating parties in a difficult position during the agreement process, said, “Netanyahu rejects a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive withdrawal from Gaza.” It was also stated that the Tel Aviv administration insisted on the continuation of the occupation of the Netzarim Corridor, which divides Gaza in two, the Rafah Corridor, the Gaza Strip, and the Philadelphia Corridor on the Egyptian border.
While it was noted that new articles regarding the prisoner exchange were added to the negotiations, Hamas held Netanyahu responsible for obstructing the efforts of mediators, making it difficult to reach an agreement, and threatening the lives of prisoners with attacks that negatively affect the lives of the people in the Gaza Strip. The statement included the following statements: “This situation leads to the systematic targeting of our people.”
It was recalled that the negotiations between Israel and Hamas, mediated by the US, Egypt and Qatar, were held in Doha on August 15-16. These negotiations aim to establish a permanent ceasefire between the parties and to carry out a prisoner exchange.
