Government Accelerates Work to Increase Birth Rates

The government continues to work on various incentive measures to reduce the effects of falling fertility rates in Turkey and maintain population balance. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also gave important instructions regarding the incentives that were brought to the agenda in recent meetings.

Birth Incentive Package was Discussed at the MKYK Meeting

The birth incentive package was discussed in detail at the AK Party’s last Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting. At the meeting, the proposal to increase the duration of paid maternity leave from 4 months to 1 year was brought to the agenda. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek also supported this proposal.

Nursery and Rent Support Are Also Among the Topics Discussed

At the MKYK meeting, in addition to state support for the second and third child, supports such as increasing mothers’ leave periods and nursery or rent support were also discussed. In addition, the personal rights of female employees and the arrangements to be made in their salaries were also evaluated.

In his recent statement, President Erdoğan emphasized the importance of the family issue and stated that new steps would be taken regarding birth incentives.

Stating that the decline in the fertility rate poses a serious threat to Turkey in his previous statements, Erdoğan emphasized that the population is the greatest power of the nation and stated that birth rates should be increased.
