Glenn Youngkin Limits Cell Phone Use
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has reportedly signed an executive order restricting or banning cell phone use in public schools. The written statement noted that students’ use of cell phones during class negatively impacts their education and causes grades to drop.
The statement, which stated that steps would be taken to limit or ban the use of mobile phones during education hours, emphasized that mental health crises among young people were on the rise.
Virginia Department of Education spokesman Todd Reid said in a statement that the governor’s decision will be implemented in schools until January 2025.
Similar Ban Approved in California
In California, the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Directors approved a resolution in June banning students from using cell phones and social media during school hours.
