Fire Incidents and Their Effects on Agricultural Areas
In July, many fire incidents occurred in Tekirdağ province during the harvest season due to various reasons. These fires were caused by human factors such as sparks from combine harvesters, faults in power lines and cigarette butts and glass bottles thrown on the side of the road.
Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality fire brigade teams responded to vehicle, house and factory fires, primarily stubble fires, in total. 911As a result of the fires that broke out in July, there were major losses in agricultural areas and a total of 19 thousand 676 acresagricultural land was damaged.
The fires also caused damage to croplands, including:
- 1850 acresCultivated wheat
- 185 acresCultivated barley
- 130 acresplanted canola
- 37 acresplanted sunflower
Authorities from the Agriculture and Forestry Directorates are constantly warning producers to be careful and minimize fire risks throughout the fire season. In this context, precautions to be taken for the safety of agricultural activities are of great importance.
