A fire broke out yesterday evening in a paper factory in the Söke Organized Industrial Zone for an unknown reason. As the fire grew rapidly, fire, forestry, police and health teams were dispatched to the area upon notification from nearby citizens.
The flames were intervening from land and air. Helicopters and planes from the Muğla Forestry Regional Directorate, water tenders and firefighting teams fought the fire. The fire spread over a wide area due to the wind, making extinguishing efforts difficult. Support teams were also dispatched from surrounding provinces and districts.
Attempts were made to reduce the risk of fire spreading by removing compressed papers that were at risk of ignition from the area with construction equipment. Some firefighters and workers affected by the smoke at the scene were treated in ambulances. Air intervention efforts were stopped during the night hours, but resumed at first light.
AFAD and UMKE teams were also kept ready in the region. Fire extinguishing efforts were supported by TOMAs. A detailed investigation was launched into the cause of the fire.
