Following the announcement of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) results, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is informing students. YÖK President Erol Özvar made an important warning regarding foundation higher education institutions.

“No additional changes should be made to education and training fees other than the official updated rates based on the CPI”

Fee Warning

Ücret Uyarısı

While state universities have not collected any contribution fee from students in daytime education since the 2011-2012 academic year, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) touched upon the tuition fees of foundation higher education institutions. Regarding tuition fees, which are one of the determining criteria in students’ preferences and decisions to continue in the institutions they are registered in, YÖK emphasized that candidates should be informed about the updated fees throughout the completion period.

12 Months CPI Rate Will Be Taken As Basis

12 Aylık TÜFE Oranı Esas Alınacak

In line with the decisions taken at the meeting of the Council of Higher Education dated July 10, 2024, the issues to be taken into consideration in the wage determination processes were listed as follows:

  • Wages are determined as an annual and determined amount, not periodically,
  • The fees should be announced as a clear amount before the preference and/or horizontal transfer periods and in a way that is easily accessible to each candidate,
  • The tuition fee increase rates promised to the student at the time of initial registration should not be exceeded, but in any case, the twelve-month average rate in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should be taken as the basis for any increases to be made, and updates within this scope should be announced on official websites.
  • Not to request additional/unexpected fees or salary increases that have not been clearly announced under any name after the registration period,
  • No additional changes should be made to the announced tuition and education fees other than the official updated rates based on the CPI, and any decisions to be made in this regard should be shared with all students at the appropriate time and through appropriate means.
