Horrific Accident in Uşak: Family Tragedy
A terrible accident occurred yesterday morning at around 06:30 on the Uşak-İzmir highway near Gökkaya Neighborhood. The light commercial vehicle with the license plate 09 AAB 954, driven by Mahmut Karataş, crashed into the back of a truck with the license plate 35 ASU 585, which was parked on the emergency lane. When the people around noticed the situation, many health, fire, police and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.
As a result of the accident, Ahmet Karataş, his wife Süheyla Karataş, Mahmut Karataş’s wife Ceylan Karataş (34) and daughter Aslıhan Karataş, who were in the light commercial vehicle, lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Mahmut Karataş and his nephews Murat (2) and Babacan Karataş (4) were injured. After receiving first aid at the scene, the injured were taken to Turgutlu State Hospital for treatment. While Mahmut Karataş was discharged today after his treatment, it was reported that the other two siblings are continuing their treatment.
It was reported that the accident occurred while the Karataş family was returning to their hometown, the Torbalı district of Izmir, from a relative’s wedding they attended in Ankara.
The Funeral Ceremony and After
The bodies of those who lost their lives were received from the morgue by their families today. The bodies of Ahmet Karataş, his wife Süheyla Karataş and his niece Aslıhan Karataş were brought to Torbalı. Ceylan Karataş’s body was taken to her hometown Adana. A funeral ceremony was held for those who lost their lives at the Torbalı Ethem Oruç Mosque.
The funeral was attended by the driver Mahmut Karataş, who survived the accident with injuries, the relatives of the deceased and many citizens. Mahmut Karataş, who had difficulty standing and could not hold back his tears, carried the coffin of his daughter Aslıhan Karataş on his shoulder at the funeral. At the ceremony, 3 people were buried in the Torbalı Aslanlar Cemetery.
