EP General Assembly Meeting
Following the elections held in the European Union countries between June 6-9, the European Parliament (EP) General Assembly convened in Strasbourg. Spanish MP Montero from the Left Group criticized the EU’s policy towards Israel in his address to the General Assembly prior to the vote for the EP president.
“My colleagues, we see that a war is being imposed on us irresponsibly, and at the same time there is genocide. Netanyahu cannot commit this genocide against the Palestinian people without the determined support of the United States and Europe. Europe cannot continue to be “An accomplice to Israel’s genocide,” Montero said.
Recalling the EU’s sanctions on Russia due to the war in Ukraine, Montero said, “Why don’t we apply the same sanctions to Netanyahu’s genocide as we did to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin? This hypocrisy is unacceptable. The current priority of humanity is to end the genocide and the illegal occupation of Palestine.”
Montero announced her candidacy last night, following incumbent President Roberta Metsola, the candidate of the European People’s Party (EPP).
