Earthquake Warning from Prof. Dr. Doğan Perinçek
Retired from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geological Engineering, Prof. Dr. Doğan Perinçek made important statements on the social media platform. In his statement, Prof. Perinçek shared critical information about the fault lines in the region.
Perinçek said, “In my opinion, the faults mapped in the region extend from İmralı Island towards Erdek. This fault, Imrali Fault We called it. The trace of the fault can be observed quite clearly in the north of İmralı Island. The reason why the northern part of the island looks like a hammer is this fault line. İmralı Fault is connected to other faults located between Erdek and Bandırma in the southwest direction.”
Prof. Dr. Doğan Perinçek, drawing attention to the importance of the İmralı Fault, added: “The active fault lines starting from the southern shores of Lake İznik to the southern shores of Gemlik Bay continue in the Bandırma direction. I believe that earthquakes on this fault zone load energy and tension in the west. We observe a similar energy transfer from the İmralı Fault to the Erdek-Bandırma direction. In addition, we have been trying to determine for the last three years that earthquakes occurring within the triangle area centered on the Marmara Island. also transfer energy in the southwest direction. These energy transfer directions are shown with purple arrows.”
Perinçek emphasized that time is the best test of the validity of his comments, saying, “Time will show how valid this comment is. However, I think we will not have to wait too long.” These statements are an important warning, especially for citizens living in Erdek and Bandırma, and remind us once again that we need to be prepared for an earthquake.
