Death of D. Mehmet Dogan
After receiving treatment for a long time, the Founder and Honorary President of the Turkish Writers Union (TYB), D. Mehmet Doğan, passed away at the age of 77. Doğan’s funeral was held at the Hacı Bayram-ı Veli Mosque following the afternoon prayer He was known as one of the founders of the Turkish Writers Union Foundation and the Turkish Voluntary Organizations Foundation. D. Mehmet Doğan served as the general president of the Turkish Writers Union for many years.
Doğan, who has written nearly 30 works, is a name that has written his name in literary history in golden letters. After a period of treatment, the sad news was announced yesterday. The Turkish Writers Union shared the necessary information for Doğan’s funeral and announced that he will be sent off from the Hacı Bayram-ı Veli Mosque after the afternoon prayer today. Many people from the art, politics and press worlds shared condolence messages for Doğan.
Erdogan Attends Funeral Ceremony
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan used the following expressions in his condolence message for D. Mehmet Doğan: “I learned with deep sorrow the passing of D. Mehmet Doğan Beyefendi, the founder and Honorary President of the Turkish Writers Union and one of the most valuable intellectuals our country has raised I wish God’s mercy upon D. Mehmet Doğan Beyefendi, who will always be remembered for his unique contributions to our world of literature, history, thought and culture, especially his work on our National Poet Mehmet Âkif Ersoy and our National Anthem, along with his work The Great Turkish Dictionary; I offer my condolences to his family and readers. May he rest in peace.”
