Damla Macit Çörtük: The Master Daughter of the Lathe Machine

Damla Macit Çörtük: Torna Makinesinin Usta Kızı

While continuing her high school education, Damla Macit Çörtük met her father’s interest in the iron lathe workshop and began to improve herself in this field by spending her free time in the workshop in the Yenişehir District.

Çörtük learned the intricacies of the profession with the training he received from his father and began to take an active role in the preparation of orders in the workshop. After graduating from high school, he took over his father’s business, increased his work on the lathe machine and embarked on a journey to design products used in the iron and steel industry.

Currently a third-year student at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Mustafa Kemal University’s Faculty of Engineering, Çörtük embarked on an entrepreneurial adventure last year by establishing his own brand, “Damla Makina.” Çörtük, who follows both his father’s and his own company’s projects, manages customer relations and keeps the accounting of the business.

“We have accomplished beautiful projects together”

Damla Macit Çörtük stated that she has been following lathe work with interest since her childhood and that she learned the profession by watching her father. She said the following on this subject:

  • “When my father went to work, I would go to the workshop by minibus. Because of my insistence, he understood that he had to support me too. Afterwards, he started to like this situation too. Father and daughter, hand in hand, managed to expand the business of the 250 square meter workshop.”

Expressing that she aims to bring new skills to the profession, Çörtük said, “I can easily use all the workbenches in our workshop. Our women can easily work in every field, machine and corner of the industry.”

Çörtük, emphasizing that he has left behind 15 years in the profession, concluded his words by saying, “I manage the order that my father established with the education I received from him. This makes me extremely happy and proud. I am very lucky to “Have such a father. I continue to do my job with love.”
