Members of the Democratic Party are voicing concerns about President Joe Biden’s lackluster performance in his live-streamed debate with Trump, with calls for Biden to drop out of the race a hot topic among Democrats in the US.

Democratic leaders are calling on Biden and his campaign to provide more compelling evidence after the polls have shown poor performance, and members of Congress and donors have said they could issue open calls for Biden to withdraw by the end of the week.

Democrats, who do not want to embarrass Biden at the NATO Summit, say they are giving Biden time to make his own decision to withdraw from the race.

Democratic Senator Peter Welch, in an article he wrote for the Washington Post, stated that Biden was one of the best presidents of the time, and said, “He saved us from Trump before and now he wants to save us again, but he should re-evaluate whether he is the best candidate for this. I don’t think he is that person.”

Emphasizing that Biden’s performance in the live debate cannot be ignored, Welch said, “For the good of the country, I call on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.”

Welch said the state of Vermont likes Biden, but voters are worried that Biden will not win this time, and drew attention to the changing trends between states.

New York Lieutenant Governor and former House Member Antonio Delgado also said it was “time for a new leader.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a senior member of Congress, drew attention by not directly answering questions about whether she supports Biden. Pelosi said of Biden’s withdrawal from the race, “It’s up to him to decide whether he’s going to run or not. We all encourage him to make that decision because time is running out.”

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet became the first Democratic senator to publicly voice his concerns about Biden, telling CNN that he does not believe he can beat Trump.

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal also expressed his concerns about Biden winning the election and said Trump’s re-election would pose a great threat to the country.
