Republicans Shift Focus from President Biden to Vice President Harris
Good evening. Tonight, my colleague Luke Broadwater shares insights on how House Republicans, who have dedicated significant resources to investigating President Biden, are now pivoting their focus. Additionally, we bring you highlights from Donald Trump’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago. — Jess Bidgood

Since assuming control in 2023, House Republicans have invested most of their investigative efforts into scrutinizing President Biden and his family, aiming to uncover evidence of misconduct that could potentially impact his re-election campaign. After twenty months filled with numerous hearings, the Republicans have yet to release a comprehensive impeachment inquiry report, which predominantly centers on the intricate financial dealings involving Biden’s son and brother, both of whom are not currently running for office.
As the political landscape evolves, the entire Republican Party, led by former President Trump, is recalibrating its strategy to confront Vice President Kamala Harris. This shift is particularly important as the election draws nearer, with only three months left on the calendar. House Republicans are essentially starting their investigations anew, recognizing the need to adapt to the changing political dynamics.
Throughout the past year and a half, the Republican-controlled House has largely overlooked investigating Harris, who now stands as the Democratic Party’s nominee. For the Democrats, this transition has been a subtle but significant advantage, revealing a strategic oversight that Republicans are now eager to rectify.
Making Up for Lost Time
In the world of Congress, political motivations often underpin investigative actions. Typically, Democrats focus on probing Republicans, while Republicans do the reverse. However, Vice President Harris has largely escaped scrutiny from the Republican-led House until very recently. Just this week, Representative James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky and the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, announced a formal investigation into Harris, particularly concerning her role in handling immigration issues at the southern border.
Harris was tasked by President Biden with addressing the root causes of the migration surge, yet Republicans have inaccurately branded her as a failed “border czar,” despite her assignment not being focused on border enforcement. This mischaracterization reflects the broader strategy that House Republicans are now adopting as they seek to hold the Vice President accountable in the lead-up to the election.
