Alarming Statement from UNSMIL

UNSMIL'den Endişe Veren Açıklama

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya, UNSMIL, said it was deeply concerned by the abduction of political activist Uraybi and his friend, Mohamed Ishtivi, by armed men in civilian clothes in the city of Misrata on 8 July.

The statement noted that Istivi was released after being beaten, but there was still no news from Uraybi, and called for the immediate release of the kidnapped Libyan political activist.

A request was made to the Misrata Municipal Council members to apprehend those responsible and launch an investigation.

It was stated in the statement that 60 people were documented to have been detained due to their political affiliations, and that this number is much higher if those who have not yet been documented are included.

“Arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, ill-treatment, torture and killings of abductees continue to plague Libya,” the statement said, warning that perpetrators of kidnappings in Libya remain unpunished.
