The 224 Bosniak and Croatian civilians who were imprisoned in concentration camps during the Bosnian War and taken by Serbian soldiers to the Koricanske cliffs near Mount Vlasic by buses on August 21, 1992 and shots were commemorated this year as well. At the ceremony, many relatives of the victims and leaders came together and 224 roses were thrown down the cliffs and prayers were said.

President of the Association of Prisoners Imprisoned in Concentration Camps Seid Omerovic, shared important information about the painful endings of the victims in his statement here. Omerovic stated that the prisoners were subjected to a three-stage execution method, saying, “First they were shot, then thrown off a cliff and finally bombed.” Emphasizing that these tragic events should not be forgotten, Omerovic said, “As an association, we have been striving since 1996 to learn from what happened and to build a qualified, democratic state. However, a solution has not yet been reached regarding a law regarding the status of prisoners in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Duratovic stated that the plaque they had previously placed for the prisoners who were killed had been removed and said, “If we wanted to place something new today, it would disappear again the next day. The consciousness of the people here should accept that this tragic event took place here.” He also reminds that there were more than 500 places where the people of Prijedor were killed and that most of these spots were still unmarked. Duratovic said, “11 war criminals were convicted for this crime. The sentences are given a memorial to the victims of the Koricanske rocks. The crime committed here is one of the most brutal crimes committed during the attacks on Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
