Preparations for the CHP Constitution Congress Continue
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) has accelerated its preparations for the bylaws convention to be held in September. There is talk in the lobbies that former Party Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu intend to turn this convention into an “extraordinary convention with general presidential elections.” In this context, a striking statement came from Kılıçdaroğlu.
Kılıçdaroğlu gave a message stating that he is ready for the party chairmanship in a live broadcast he attended. He said the following: “When I entered parliament, I had no intention of becoming party chairman. I became one because the delegates wanted me to. If the delegates say, ‘You have to come, my friend,’ and give me a task, then I will consider it. The party chairmanship has a lot of responsibility, it is not easy. I want to stay out of the party chairmanship discussions. The party has delegates. “The party will determine its own future.”
Evaluations on Betrayal
Kılıçdaroğlu also shared his views on the meeting between Meral Akşener, former leader of the İYİ Party, and President Erdoğan. Kılıçdaroğlu said, “I do not want to make a specific accusation,” and continued as follows: “If the six leaders have agreed on a common agreement text on how we will govern Turkey, which is extremely valuable in terms of our democratic history. If we have also reached an agreement on the constitutional amendments to be made in the transition to a strengthened parliamentary system, we should not have gone through a process of leaving the table and returning to the table again. When I saw Ms. Akşener in the Palace later on, I was frankly not surprised. Unfortunately, we can also see treason in these lands.”
Kilicdaroglu’s Candidacy Process
Kılıçdaroğlu also shared his thoughts on running for president. “The polls said we would win,” said Kılıçdaroğlu, “However, the process took a serious turn that I did not foresee. I was subjected to major attacks. However, I wanted to give the message of ‘No matter what you say, we are here’ against the attacks. This was my personal decision, not the advertisers’.”
