With the arrival of spring in Mersin, which is a pioneer in the beekeeping sector in Turkey, beekeepers have started a new harvest season by concentrating on their hives in the cedar forests. Millions of bees in the cedar forests at an altitude of 1,800 meters have started their honey work by filling their honeycombs with the rising of the sun.

Beekeepers, who have started production with more than 100 thousand hives operating in the region, state that the rare cedar honey has a special flavor and health benefits. It is emphasized that cedar honey, which costs around 1 thousand TL per kilogram, strengthens the immune system with its high antioxidant content and is known as a natural energy source.

Beekeepers state that they will have a productive harvest season this year due to favorable climate conditions. It is noted that demand has increased as the benefits of cedar honey are discovered by wider audiences.

Mersin Beekeepers Association President Adem Kurt, touching on the importance of honey production in the cedar forests of the Taurus Mountains in Mersin, states that cedar honey is a source of hope for beekeepers. Kurt says, “Cedar honey is a product that cannot be obtained every year. The high yield this year is a hopeful situation for our beekeepers. This is one of those rare years and the production amount is quite satisfactory. It could be a turning point for our beekeepers.”

It is stated that cedar honey, which could not be produced in sufficient quantities in previous years and could not meet the demand abroad, will be exported to different countries with increased yield this year. Despite the difficulties posed by global climate change on production, beekeepers believe that this year’s product volume will meet expectations.
