Şişli Municipality Veterinary Services teams received a report on Tuesday, June 25, that there was a bad smell coming from an address in İzzetpaşa Neighborhood and that many cats were in poor health. In this report, municipal teams reported the situation to the Istanbul Police Department Public Security Branch Directorate Environment, Nature and Animal Protection Bureau teams.
Animal Protection Bureau teams, Şişli District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate, Şişli Veterinary Affairs Directorate and Şişli Police Department officials came together and went to the specified address.
Detections at the Crime Scene
When the teams arrived at the specified address, they determined that the shop and apartment belonging to 82-year-old TK was where a large number of cats were kept by his 59-year-old daughter GB. Entering the house, the teams determined that there were 85 cats of various breeds and that they were in poor health.
Municipal veterinary teams placed the cats in cages and took them to the Şişli Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate.
Veterinary Examination Results
As a result of the examination carried out by the Veterinary Affairs Directorate, it was determined that the care and feeding of 85 cats were seriously neglected, that sick cats were not treated and that the cats were mistreated.
Legal Action and Penalty
GB was imposed a judicial fine of 7,216 lira for each cat, totaling 613,360 lira, in accordance with the article “Intentionally mistreating animals” of the Animal Protection Law No. 5199.
