British Prime Minister Keir Starmer Meets with Iran
According to statements from the UK Prime Minister’s Office, Number 10, Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Expressing his concerns about developments in the Middle East, Starmer called on all parties to reduce tensions and take steps to prevent conflict in the region.
War Benefits No One
Starmer called on Iran to refrain from attacks against Israel, while stressing that war would not benefit anyone. Taking into account the situation in Gaza, he called for an immediate ceasefire, demanded the release of prisoners and increased humanitarian aid to the region. At this point, he emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts.
The Importance of Dialogue Between Two Countries
Starmer also touched on the situation of foreign prisoners in Iran, stating that it was necessary to ensure that these individuals received the necessary medical support. Both leaders developed a common view that constructive dialogue between the UK and Iran was in the interests of both countries. Starmer said that this constructive dialogue would be possible only if Iran ended its actions in the Middle East, the removal of Iranian threats to individuals in the UK and the end of support for Russia.
