According to local media, a brain-eating amoeba was detected in two people swimming in a water park in northern Israel. According to the news, a 25-year-old man died from the amoeba, while a 10-year-old child in serious condition is being treated in hospital.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health announced that the decision was made to temporarily close the water park. He also warned that people who visited the water park in the last two weeks and show symptoms such as fever, headache or vomiting should contact health institutions.
It was reported that more than 100 people were hospitalized after this incident. The amoeba called “Naegleria fowleri” usually enters the brain through the nose and can cause serious health problems. Experts state that individuals who encounter this type of amoeba infection have a very low chance of survival.
