Ms. Charles’s journey with braids started at a young age, with her early memories tinged with the pain of hair pulling during braiding sessions. As she grew older, she noticed a lack of luxury and cleanliness in many salons, prompting her to create a different experience. In September 2021, she launched her salon in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights, specializing in various braid styles, from straight back feed-in braids to elaborate braided updos.

Her clientele expanded to include celebrities like Cardi B, Tanisha Thomas, and even involvement in Beyoncé’s “Black Is King” visual album. Emphasizing the idea that luxury should be accessible to all, Ms. Charles has transformed the perception of braiding services for Black individuals.

In the realm of New York City braiding services, knotless braids have gained popularity for being quicker to braid, lighter to wear, and stylish. Prices for knotless braids can range from $200 to upwards of $650, depending on factors such as length, braid size, color blending, and the type of hair used for intricate styles like boho knotless braids.

For boho knotless braids requiring human hair or a human hair blend, customers are asked to provide their hair packs due to the higher cost compared to synthetic options. The price of a pack of human hair can vary from $50 to $200 based on the quality of the hair, adding a personalized touch to the braiding experience.
