Banking and Airline Agreement between Jordan and Yemen

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a written statement, “We welcome the announcement of the UN Special Representative for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to end the crisis in the banking sector that has been going on for months and to allow Yemen Airlines to resume operations. ” The statement praised the efforts of the UN Special Representative for Yemen to end the crisis in the country, ensure security and stability, and reach a political solution that will end the hardships of the Yemeni people, including the unity, stability and territorial integrity of Yemen .”

GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budeiwi also welcomed the agreement reached by the Yemeni government and the Houthis on measures to reduce tensions in the banking sector and Yemen Airlines. Describing this step as “confirmation of the importance the international community attaches to the Yemeni crisis,” Budeiwi noted that the agreement will contribute to creating a suitable atmosphere to start the political process to reach a comprehensive solution in the country.

The office of the UN Special Representative for Yemen, Grundberg, announced yesterday that the Yemeni government and the Houthis had agreed to take certain measures to reduce tensions in the banking and airline sectors. In the text sent to the UN Office by both parties, it was noted that “the parties announced that they had canceled the decisions and practices they had taken against the banks.” It was stated that according to the agreement, flights between Sanaa and Jordan would resume, and flights would be organized to India and Cairo on a daily basis or as needed.
