Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra’s spokesman Ahmed Attaf held a telephone conversation with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri. The tensions in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue were discussed. In particular, the events that took place during Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to Tehran and the repercussions of the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh were discussed in detail.
Bagheri and Attaf stressed that the Arab and Islamic worlds must act more effectively in international platforms to stop the increasing attacks against the Palestinian people and prevent the expansion of conflicts in the region. They also agreed on the need to take a common stance against Israel’s dragging of the region into war.
