Ömer Çelik’s Reaction to the New Welfare Party

Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Spokesperson and Deputy Chairman Ömer Çelik gave a harsh response to the statements made by the New Welfare Party. Çelik said, “The statement made today by those who made it a political goal to win elections for the CHP is an attempt to establish an outdated tutelage over mayors who act with their own free will.”

Allegations of Impeachment Against Mayors

In his post on social media, Çelik emphasized that the New Welfare Party is trying to unfairly implicate mayors who have shown their will to participate in the AKP’s work and service politics. Çelik’s statements continued as follows:

  • The New Welfare Party did not pursue an independent policy in many regions during the local elections.
  • He acted with the aim of making the AK Party lose and the CHP gain.
  • Making offers to people who have done politics in the AK Party in the past is a situation they have to face in terms of political principles.
  • Those who talk about the concepts of political morality and blackmail must first take these concepts into consideration.

Çelik also said in his statements, “The door of the AK Party, which is the address of the politics of work that has created a significant impact in Turkish and world politics under the leadership of our President, is wide open to all mayors who want “To serve this nation on the basis of principles.”

While these discussions once again reveal the importance of local elections in Turkish politics, they also show how intense the competition between parties has become.
