Karakurt Village, located in the Sarıkamış district of Kars and evacuated with the impactment of the Karakart Dam, continues to offer an eye-catching view. Although the old village houses, church and village mosque were flooded, the minaret, which has become the symbol of the village, is prominently featured on the surface of the waters.

Citizens who viewed the minaret state that their memories along with their villages were flooded. Village residents who say “Our village is under water” share their emotional memories and express their longing for their village as the minaret remains standing.
In the village, which was flooded by the waters of the Karakurt Dam in the spring months, many structures such as trees, churches and historical stone houses were submerged. However, on the surface, the minaret of the 100-year-old mosque still stands tall, bearing traces of the past.
