Retired police officer Avşin Altuntaş was attacked with a gun while he was sitting in the car with his friends in Bağcılar, Istanbul. The attacker escaped after stealing the phones of Altuntaş and his friends. After Altuntaş fired his gun into the air, the attacker also fired his gun, killing Altuntaş. The moment of the incident was recorded on a security camera.
10 Suspects Caught
Istanbul Police Department teams detained 10 people involved in various crimes in Bahçelievler and Kartal, including the suspect involved in the murder of Altuntaş. The suspects were referred to judicial authorities. During the searches, many weapons and ammunition were seized.
Security Forces Took Action
Following the incident, security forces launched a large-scale operation. As a result of meticulous studies, 3 unlicensed pistols, 1 Kalashnikov AK-47 brand rifle, 1 rifle magazine, 15 7.62mm diameter cartridges, 5 pistol magazines and 155 9.19mm diameter cartridges were seized during the searches at the suspects’ addresses.
