Change in Israel’s Approach to the West Bank

İsrail'in Batı Şeria'ya Yaklaşımındaki Değişim

According to Israel Hayom newspaper, with the recent increase in attacks on occupying Israeli targets in the West Bank, senior Israeli officials have taken an important approach to the West Bank, which they call a “secondary area”, after their attacks on Gaza since October 7. A change was observed.

It was stated that the occupying Israeli army now considers the West Bank as the “second most important front and a battlefield” after Gaza. It is anticipated that this new approach is still in its early stages and the fundamental changes observed in the field will take time. It was also emphasized that the Israeli army is expected to “carry out a series of attacks” in the West Bank very soon.

In the details of the news, attention was drawn to the statements of some Israeli officials, who did not want to be named, that “the Jenin attack (which has been ongoing in the north of the West Bank since August 28) is only the “beginning.” It was reminding that on August 28, Israel launched comprehensive attacks on refugee camps in the north of the West Bank, which it called “Summer Camps”. It was pointed out that two battalions are currently deployed in Jenin Refugee Camp and Tulkerim and that “the operation will continue in the foreseeable future”.

Authorities argued that the attacks in Gush Etzion and Terkumya towns, which are Palestinian lands seized by the Israelis in the occupied West Bank, and the “futile” attack in Ateret, necessitated Israel to take comprehensive measures in the West Bank. The sentence was included in the news: “The West Bank turned from a powder keg into an area on the verge of explosion in just 48 hours.”

It was stated that Israeli far-right National Missions Minister Orit Strock called on the security cabinet to implement “emergency measures”, including declaring a “state of war” in the West Bank. Occupied Israel announced on August 28 that it had launched the most intense and comprehensive attacks on the refugee camps in the cities of Jenin, Tulkerim and Tubas, which it called “Summer Camps”, since the Second Intifada in 2002.

The attacks in Jenin by the occupying Israeli soldiers, who withdrew from the Nur Shams Refugee Camp in Tulkerim after the El-Faria Refugee Camp in the city of Tubas, have entered their 7th day.
