Statement on the Situation of Palestinian Prisoner Jarrar
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Association and the Prisoners and Releasees’ Board of the Palestine Liberation Organization issued a joint press statement. The statement provided information about the current situation of Palestinian prisoner Mahmoud Jarrar, who is being held in solitary confinement in Israel’s Neve Tirtza Prison.
According to the statement, Surgeon expressed the living conditions in prison during the visit with the following words: “I die every day in the solitary confinement where I am isolated. I stay in this cell that is like a box with no air. There is only one toilet inside, there was a small window in my ceiling, but it was closed after a day. They didn’t leave me any room to breathe.”
The surgeon stated that he was trying to breathe through a tiny vent in his cell, “I spend most of my time breathing next to that tiny vent. I’m suffocating in the cell. I wait here for hours hoping to get oxygen to survive.”he said.
Emphasizing that as air temperatures increase, the cell becomes even more unbearable, Surgeon said, “To summarize, I am being held in an oven. I cannot sleep because of the extreme heat. Not only have they isolated me, they have also cut off the water in the cell. When I want drinking water, I have to wait at at least 4 hours.”
The surgeon stated that he was only allowed to go out into the prison yard once after 8 days of isolation in the cell, “The food I was given after long waiting times was also very bad. It’s impossible to stay healthy under these conditions.”He made a statement.
Detained in a raid in the city of al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank on December 26, 2023, and sent to prison as an administrative detainee, Jarrar is known as one of the leaders of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). ) and a former member of parliament. He has been held in solitary confinement for 16 days.
